On our second day in Hamburg, we went on a tour of the new harbor development project known as Hafencity. The tour was highly educational, and introduced us to an area of the city which in 10-20 years may become the main tourist attraction. From the guide's talks it was evident that the overall goals for the construction of the area were to prevent flood damage, attract visitors and bring renown back to Hamburg while all the while making Hafencity an Eco- friendly section of this already largely green city.
As Anthony has already said, the tour of Hafencity was a highly educational and interesting experience. What I found to be the most intriguing aspect of the tour was the way in which the designers were trying to create the entire sector according to specific themes. From what I observed, the themes seem to be energy efficency, moderness, and functionality. The overall vision of the project seemed to be recognized by the buildings already in place, and I hope that I will have the opportunity to return here at the completion of the project to see how it has developed.
